Thirty two boys schools teams and sixteen girls schools teams have entered the Annual All Island Schools Boys and girls under 19 seven A Side hockey tournament 2002 organised by Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy which will be played at Police grounds, Kandy on March 2nd and 3rd (Saturday/Sunday).

This is the biggest schools hockey tournament to be held in the hill capital and in the past has attracted much spectator interest. Last year the organisers Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya won the tournament for girls while the competition for boys was won by Nalanda Vidyalaya, Colombo.

It is a laudable gesture by the organisers to provide accommodation to all the participating teams from the outstations and they will be accommodated at Seetha Devi BMV, Vidyartha College, Kingswood College, Sri Sumangala College and Sarasavi Uyana MV.

In the boys, Nalanda, St. Sylvesters, Vidyartha, Christ Church (Matale), St. Thomas (Matale,), and Trinity College go out favourites.

In the championship for girls the defending champions Seetha Devi BMV, along with Pushpadana Girls College, Sri Rahula College, Vijaya College, Sangamittha BMV, Matale go out favourites.

The group is as follows:

Boys Group 'A': Nalanda College 'B' Mahinda College, Vidyartha College, 'B', St. Sylvesters College, 'A' Group B: Joseph Vas College, St. Aloysius College, Sri Sumangala, Kandy, Christ Church, Matale. Group c: Hindu College, Colombo, Trinity College, Kingswood College, St. Thomas College, Matale, Group 'D': St. Benedicts College, Dharmadhutha College, Badulla. Ananda College, Colombo, Zahira College, Matale, Group F, Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa, Kingswood, College 'Maroons', Trinity College 'B', Vidyaloka Vidyalaya, Galle.

Group F: Richmond College, Dharmaraja College, Bright International, Kandy, Maris Stella College, Negombo, Group C, Presidents College, Rajagiriya, Vidyartha College, 'A', Bandaranaike MV, Gampaha, Sri Sumangala College (Kandy) 'A', Group H: Mahinda College 'A', St. Sylvesters College 'B', Sri Rahula College, Matara, Vijaya College Matara.
