by Mohammed Rasooldeen in Riyadh Some of the Sri Lankan embassy officials who were returning to Riyadh after Haj work in Mecca met with an accident at Al Ghuwaiyah about 150 kilometers from the Saudi capital, Tuesday. The passengers who suffered injuries have been warded at the nearest hospital in the Al Ghuwaiyah city. The accident has occurred due to a tyre puncture on the Riyadh-Mecca highway after dusk, immediately after Magrib prayers. The passengers included the head of the chancery of the Riyadh mission, Ameer Ajwad, his wife and baby, the labour welfare officer, Fahim Mowlana, Mohammed Farook from the mission and the driver Mohamed Anees. The traffic police rushed the victims of the accident to the nearest hospital at Al Ghuwaiyah and they are being treated well by the hospital staff. According to hospital sources, all the patients except for Fahim Mowlana will be discharged after 36 hours of treatment and observation. Mowlana who is out of danger and needs treatment for another period of seven days will be transferred to a hospital in Riyadh city on Thursday evening. The Sri Lankan ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar who rushed to the scene from Mecca, told the Daily News that a part of his team which was working in the holy city of Mecca and Medinah during the Haj was returning to their workplace after their duty. He said that he was happy that the accident victims were out of danger. |
