US donation to Jaffna hospital

by Jaffna special correspondent

The American Ambassador Ashley Wills and his wife were given a befitting reception at the Jaffna Teaching hospital when they visited the hospital to officially hand over medical apparatus and equipment worth one lakh American dollars. The Director of the hospital Dr. Miss Navamany Kanagaratnam and Dr. Ambalavanar Thayalan welcomed the Ambassador and his wife and garlanded them.

The Ambassador addressed the hospital staff and the members of the public. He said "The political climate in this country is now more conducive to the peace process than in the past. My country welcomes the steps taken by the government to bring peace and harmony to this country. We donated medical equipment to this hospital and they are being put to good use. The present cessation of hostilities will pave the way for more donations to pour in and alleviate the sufferings of the people."
