Sehan wins two titles

Sehan Withanachchi of Mahanama College won two titles at the Western Province open, intermediate and novices table tennis championships worked off at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium courts recently.

Sehan Withanachchi clinched the boys under 17 singles defeating Nisindu Mithraratne of Royal College 12-10, 11-9 and also took the boys under 15 singles overcoming Devinda Fernando of Royal College 11-13, 11-7, 14-7.

Meanwhile Yohan Deshapriya of Royal and Pradeepa Dilrukshi of St. John's Sports Club won the men's and women's title respectively in the open championship. Yohan beat Rohan Sirisena of Three Star SC 11-9, 14-12, 11-9 and Dilrukshi had the better of Mavulee Prajanganee of Visakha 11-2, 8-11, 11-9.

In the intermediate women's singles final Puimi Perera of St. Joseph's BMV beat Tashia Wanniarachchi of Bandaranayake MV Gampaha 11-7, 6-11, 16-14 and in the men's novices singles Y. Jayakode of Bandaranayake MV defeated his schoolmate N. Wanniarachchi 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.

In the women's novices singles final Tashia Godakandarachchi of Musaeus College beat Hansani Uthpala of Devi Balika BMV 11-9, 11-8.

Rangika Thalpage of Sirimavo Bandaranayake BMV beat Himasha de Silva of Holy Cross College Gampaha 11-7, 13-11 in the girls under 17 singles final. The girls under 15 singles title went to Savini Nimesha of Holy Cross College Gampaha who beat Azma Issadeen of Ladies College 11-7, 11-4.

Chatura Weerakoon of Royal College and Kusali Ranmini of Girls High School Mount Lavinia clinched the boys and girls under 13 singles titles respectively. In the boys under 11 final Duminda Attygalle of Royal beat Dushan Ranatunga of Isipathana while in the girls under 11 final Uthpala Pushpakumara of Musaeus College beat Gimhani Nivandika of Holy Cross College Gampaha.

The boys under 9 title went to Sahan Gunasekera and Isuri Narmada won the girls under 9 title. Sanjula Kodikara of Central College Dehiwela took the boys under 7 title and Sanduni Abeysenevi won the girls under 7 singles title.

Sri Lanka test player Mahela Jayawardena and Nimal Bulathsinghala Managing Director Nimal Superlight, Super Advertising and Super Genset were the chief guests.
