Famous professional golfer now retired and a highly qualified golf coach Henk Stevens from Netherlands is currently in Sri Lanka to conduct coaching sessions for caddie boys and caddie girls at the Victoria Golf Club in Digana from February 12 to 18.

Henk Stevens is a highly respected and famous figure in the golfing circles abroad having left an indelible mark as a golfer and his presence in Sri Lanka is certainly bound to improve our standard of golf especially among the juniors and newcomers as he will be conducting coaching sessions for them as well.

Mrs. Jennie Wiratunga of Victoria Golf Club who has been of great assistances to the media said that there are around 60 to 70 boys and girl caddies attached to the club and the main drive of Henk Stevens will be on 'how to improve the game of golf'. Last year too, he was in Sri Lanka and did much to improve the standard. Also associating at these coaching sessions will be the Director of the Victoria Golf Club and former planter and cricketer Tony Witham whose contribution has been tremendous in bringing the Victoria Golf Course up to international standards and also in conducting tournaments on a regular basis. His task had been, virtually a herculean one, as he had to start from scratch.

Henk Stevens' visit to Sri Lanka has been sponsored by Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Scotland popularly known as R & A in golfing circles. Henk Stevens' will be accompanied by his wife Amita and this duo will teach the caddies and the junior members and new comers to the club 'how to improve and play the game of golf'. Golfers-up here are indeed lucky to be handled by a famous professional golfer in learning the basics of the game. The caddies too will gain tremendously by their presence.
