People should be informed of the true picture, says Tylvin

JVP General Secretary Tylvin Silva addressing a meeting of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) candidates contesting the forthcoming Local Government polls adviced them to use the hustings as a yardstick to defeat the existing nexus between the Government and the LTTE.

He said the people must be informed of the true picture of the on going ceasefire which is being used as a means of furthering the cause of Eelam by the LTTE.

The meeting between the JVP politburo members and the prospective candidates took place last week at the New Town Hall Colombo.

Tylvin Silva said the JVPwhich displayed the biggest of improvement of all parties at the last general election should continue from where they left by addressing the burning issues of the masses such as the resolution of the North East conflict, the daily skyrocketing cost of living, the power crisis etc.

He said the JVP politburo has decided to field as many youth candidates as possible with a sound educational background as it is the responsibility of the younger generation to steer the destiny of this country in the years to come.

JVP General Secretary emphasised that the JVP will use the polls as a barometer to guage the pulse of the people to the most pressing problems of the day and the strength of the party at grassroots level.

He also briefed the cadidates on the importance of eduating the masses in rural areas where the JVP vote bank is at its strongest about the hidden agenda practised by the LTTE and the UNP with the sole aim of dividing the country and granting the wish of Tiger leader which is to usher in Eelam to the North East.

JVP Publicity Secretary and Colombo District MP Wimal Weerawansa addressing the JVP contestants urged them to brief the public on the measures taken by the UNP to betray the rights of the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people of the North East.

Weerawansa noted that the solution put forward by the JVP to resolve the ethnic issue should be highlighted on an even greater scale as the country was facing its biggest political crisis since independence.
