News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Call to control prices increases Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday urged the Government to intervene with a view to control the current escalation in prices of rice and coconut. Mr. Rajapakse said the Government should not to allow the middlemen to take undue advantage of the prevailing situation. In a release issued by the office of the Opposition Leader, Mr. Rajapakse stresses that price increases of rice and coconut would not bring any advantage to the farmers or producers and only a handful of middlemen were benefitted. The release states that the prices of rice and coconut have gone up in an unprecedented manner heaping burdens on the general public. Therefore, the Government should directly interfere to control this situation. |
