Afghan airline restarts international services with New Delhi flight KABUL, Jan 24 (AFP) - A Boeing 727 of Afghan airline Ariana took off here for New Delhi Thursday morning in the company's first international flight since November 1999. The flight carrying about 20 passengers from Kabul International Airport was made possible by the lifting of United Nations sanctions against Afghanistan, following the ousting of the hardline Taliban regime. The aircraft, one of only two Ariana planes to survive two decades of war and US bombing raids, left at about 11:15 am (0645 GMT). Among the passengers were Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Abdul Rahman and Ariana president Rohullah Aman. |
