Ericsson spearheads Dialog GSM's GPRS project Ericsson, a world leader in telecommunication has provided GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) solutions to Dialog GSM, the first mobile company to introduce GPRS in South Asia. GPRS provides cost efficient Interner Protocol communication between mobile devices and other public/private networks. Commenting on the new partnership, Ericsson, Sri Lanka's Managing Director, Bimal Dayal said, "Dialog GSM is one of the fastest growing cellular operators in Sri Lanka and we are happy to have been chosen as their supplier for GPRS. This is a major step towards 3G technology which will revolutionise mobile and broadband internet communications." He said the company is committed to supporting Dialog GSM with its global expertise and technology leadership enabling Dialog to offer the Sri Lankan market the latest applications and services," he said. CEO, Dialog, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya said the launch of GPRS was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Ericsson and its own team of engineers. "We are happy we chose Ericsson to spearhead our GPRS project and look forward to a fruitful relationship leading to the introduction of third generation technologies in the future," he said.
