News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | JVP politburo meets JVP Media Unit issuing a press release states that the party Politburo had held a special meeting in Colombo yesterday to discuss how they could contest the upcoming Local Government polls. JVP Parliamentary Group Leader and propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa speaking at the meeting said they agreed that the forthcoming polls campaign should be used as a platform to raise public awareness on the separatist conflict and how to revive the country's stuttering economy. He said the JVP would promote the idea that the conflict should be resolved within the Unitary state of Sri Lanka during the campaign. Wimal Weerawansa also reiterated that an economic policy best suited for Sri Lanka should be adopted forthwith without giving into the terms of any International lending agencies. The JVP Media Unit also stated that they had also recently held discussions with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga regarding the possibility of contesting the Local Government Elections as a coalition with the People's Alliance. |
