By K.P.Ranjani An Avissawella Depot bus carrying a full load of passengers from Eswatte to Avissawella collided with a Colombo bound Kelanivalley Line train at the improvised level crossing near the Eswatte Railway Station last Saturday(12)evening injuring 30 bus passengers. Out of the 30 injured who were admitted to Avissawella Base Hospital, 5 including the bus conductor were subsequently transferred to Colombo National Hospital because their conditions were serious. Police investigations revealed that the gate keeper of the bamboo rail gate was not present when the train was passing the level crossing. The bus and the front part of the train involved were damaged badly. On the instructions of Kegalle SSP Lionel Gallege' a Koswatte Police team headed by OIC L.R.S.Sirithilaka are conducting further investigations. |
