Political victimisation special probe

The Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ministry is to appoint Special Committees to probe all acts of alleged political victimisation which had occurred in departments, corporations, statutory boards and other institutions under the Ministry purview during the last 7 years.

Fisheries and Ocean Resources Minister Mahinda Wijesekara yesterday decided to appoint these committees following representation made by representatives of UNP trade unions attached to these institutions. These committees will be headed by his Deputy Minister Mohideen Abdul Cader.

A Ministry press release said UNP Trade Union representatives placed before the Minister the alleged injustices caused to some of their membership on political grounds during the last 7 years.

Minister Wijesekara said employees affected by political victimisation will be given time to make representations to these committees from January 21st to 31st.

All complaints will be investigated and justice would be meted out to all victims within 2 months.
