UNP Convention today By Ananda Kannangara. The 47th Annual Convention of the United National Party will be held at the Town Hall grounds, Colombo today (January 12) under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The convention will commence at 9.30 am. " At least 25,000 party supporters and well wishers from every part of the country are expected to be present. Appointing a new party President will be the main feature," a senior UNP spokesman yesterday told the Daily News. He said: "At the beginning of the convention two minutes' silence will be observed
in honour of the late Minister Gamini Atukorale. Parking facilities will also be provided
for those who come to Colombo from outstations, while the SLCTB will provide a special bus
service for the convenience of the public. Arrangements have also been made to deploy a
sufficient number of security personnel in the vicinity of the Town hall to maintain law
and order," he added. |
