'No barriers for NGO's to operate in N/E' by Ranil Wijayapala Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees Minister Dr. Jayalath Jayawardana assured Non Government Organisations (NGOs) operating in the North and East on Thursday that all the bottlenecks in serving the people in the affected areas will be removed soon. Addressing the representatives of NGOs operating in the North and East in the uncleared areas at his Ministry the services of the NGOs is vital in upgrading the living standard of the people in those areas. He said as the Minister in charge of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees he will take the responsibility of coordinating all the Ministries connected to the services of the NGOs without hindering their efforts in providing facilities for the people in the uncleared areas. He said those NGOs serving in the North and East will be directly connected to his Ministry and the necessary coordination with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Social Services will also be done through his Ministry. The Minister said there will be no barriers in their endeavour in supplying medical and other essential items to the uncleared areas in serving the people. "There will be only one list of banned items to the Wanni and the NGOs will not face any inconvenience after January 15 in transporting essential things", the Minister added. He requested the representatives of those NGO's to meet him at least once a month to exchange their views as such dialogue would help them in improving the war affected areas in the North and East. |
