People-smuggling boats detained by Ranil Wijayapala Naval troops operating in the sea off Negombo yesterday detected two trawlers packed with 113 illegal emigrants bound to Italy in the wee hours of yesterday, a Navy spokesman told the Daily News yesterday. He said Naval troops on two Dvoras searched the sea off Negombo on a tip-off and detected the two boats. The people in the two boats confirmed that they were heading towards Italy as illegal migrants. The Naval troops brought the two boats to Colombo Port for further investigations and they were to be handed over to the Harbour Police last evening or this morning. |
