Former Bens help their cricket Former Benedictine captains generously donated valuable cricket gear to help cricket and cricketers of St. Benedict's College. Among the past captains who donated cricket gear were Christopher Pieris and Lanka Kamalgoda who provided cricket attire, boots and bats to needy players. Pradeep Hewage too donated towards the improvement of the cricketers. Nevin Noyar donated a refrigerator and a clock for the dressing room and pavilion in memory of his late father Basil Noyar who was a past president of the Old Boys Union. Felix Dias and Ranjith Fernando were instrumental in getting down Kookabura balls, bats, and blazers from England. Ranjan Nadesapillai a loyal Old Ben was instrumental in organising a grass cutter for the ground. Lal Wickrematunga who heads the Cricket Committee this year has pledged to improve the soggy ground conditions with a new draining system. The Director, Rev.Bro. Nimal Gurusinghe appreciated and accepted the cricket gear on behalf of the school and was grateful to the donors. D.J. Anthony who has been continuously serving for 25 years as Master in Charge Of Cricket at St.Benedict's and former Ananda cricketer Udaya Ananda Perera, the present Bens coach were the men behind the making of the donation campaign a success. |
