Please help this heart patient

Mohamed Nuzan (16) of No. 51/11, Zavia Mosque Lane, Dematagoda Road, Colombo 9 is suffering from a heart ailment (Atrial Septal Defect) and Cardio Thoracic Surgeon Surinder Bazaz has recommended urgent surgery on January 20 to save his life, states Dr. R.C. Rajapakse, Medical Administrator, Durdans Heart Surgical Centre, Colombo.

The surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 220,000. Nuzan's parents who say they are not in a position to foot this bill have requested donors and well-wishers to assist the cause of their son by remitting their contributions to Savings Account No. 1-030356-1 at the Bank of Ceylon, Maradana Branch held by Mrs. M.Z.F. Sharza.

Mrs. R. M. Saram of 281/D, Horagolla, Ganemulla, is having severe bilateral Osteoarthritis of both Knee Joints and needs Bilateral Total Knee Replacement I B II Surgery. The prosthesis for this operation is available and will cost Rs. 300,000 according to Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. A. B. S. Ananda Perera. Trincomalee ready for local elections

With the announcement of the Government to conduct local government elections on 1st of March the Trincomalee elections office is preparing itself for the event. Voters lists of the year 2000 will be used for this election too.

Though there are 11 divisions in Trincomalee district there will be only ten Pradeshiya Sabhas as Verugal AGA division will be amalgamated with the Seruwila Divisional Secretary division. Verugal AGA division is an uncleared area.

The number of registered voters in the district totals 212,280. The number of registered voters and the number of members to be elected for each of the ten Pradeshiya Sabhas and the Trincomalee Urban Council are as follows:

NEPC official ready to visit uncleared areas

The Chief Secretary, North East Provincial Council (NEPC) G. Kirushnamurthi has informed Provincial Council Officers, Secretaries, Heads of Departments etc to be prepared to make a collective visit to Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu districts to look into the problems of the people living there.

Such a visit will be made only after peace is restored. The NEPC after visiting these districts will decide and plan on development programmes to benefit the populace.

He said since the conflict began, these areas were neglected as officials could not proceed to those areas to look into the problems grievances and living conditions of the people.

500 new houses in Matale

National Housing Development Authority has made arrangements to construct 500 houses for low income families in Matale District under the 100 days' development program launched by Government.

In this connection, the qualified families are due to be selected on divisional secretariat level.

In addition the necessary infrastructure facilities will also be provided for them.

Death of Daily News staffer's mother

The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs. Pearline Joyce Jansz, wife of the late Malcolm Jansz, a former Trade Commissioner, Sri Lanka High Commission, London. She was 78.

She is the mother of 'Daily News' sub editor Dudley Jansz. She also leaves two other sons Tyronne (Mercantile Investments), Jefferson (National Development Bank (NDB) and daughters Portia (Shermans) and Calpurnia (Travel International).

The funeral takes place on Wednesday January 9 at Kanatte, Borella (RC) Section. Cortege leaves residence 55, Centre Road, Mattakkuliya, Colombo 15 at 4 p.m.
