Lake House investigates origin of offending article

Lake House Chairman, Kumar Abeysinghe has issued the following statement in response to a news item which appeared in certain newspapers yesterday with regard to a feature article on the Sacred Tooth Relic which was to be published in the Sunday Observer of 6.1.2002.

My attention has been drawn to a news item appearing in certain newspapers yesterday concerning an article relating to the Sacred Tooth Relic which was to be published in the Sunday Observer of 6.1.2002.

The Lake House Management considers the preparation of this feature article for publication as a conspiracy to bring the Government, Mass Communication Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, and Lake House to disrepute and public ridicule.

The Management took steps to remove that article from the Sunday Observer considering the matters contained in it relating to the Sacred Tooth Relic.

We apologise to the Buddhist public if this incident had caused them any pain of mind.

An independent investigation has already begun into this incident and the Lake House Management wishes to assure the Maha Sangha and the Buddhist Public that if those responsible for this article are found guilty the maximum possible punishment will be meted out to them.
