The Mercantile Hockey Association League tournaments for the year 2002 will commence on January 7 at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. Arpico will take on SriLankan Airlines in the curtain raiser of the 'B' Division tournament.

The other teams competing in the 'B' Division tournament are Airport and Aviation, Hatton National Bank 'B', Janashakthi Group and Sampath Bank. The first match of the 'C' Division tournament will be between Mackwoods and Hong Kong Bank on January 7 at the Malay grounds. The rest of the teams participating in the 'C' Division tournament are Colombo Hilton and Abans.

The important 'A' Division tournament will begin on January 9 with Hatton National Bank 'A' meeting Seylan Bank at the astro turf in Reid Avenue. The other teams vying for honours in the 'A' Division tournament are Commercial Bank, Singer Sri Lanka, Browns Group and John Keells Group.

The 'D' Division tournament will start on January 22 with AWD Group meeting Glaxo in the opener at the Malay grounds. The other two teams competing in the 'D' Division tournament are Unilevers and Ceylon Tobacco. (C.D)
