'PA used vehicles and staff for campaign'

by Galewela group correspondent

UNP members of the Matale Municipal Council informed its secretary H.K.V. Perera that no meeting of the council was held in November, and requested him to convene a meeting. In response to their request the secretary convened a meeting on December 18.

Four UNP members, one Muslim Congress member and one PA member were present. Matale Mayor Rohana Dissanayake and most of the PA members kept away from the meeting. Therefore as was requested by the members, Muslim Congress member I.M. Adaham chaired the meeting.

U.L.M. Latiff (UNP) who brought a motion in the House said that the MC PA administration misused vehicles, houses, equipment and some of the staff members for their political campaign. Misusing the funds of the ratepayers should be condemned by the House, he said.

Hilton Berenger (UNP) seconded the motion said that the PA MC administration has employed thugs to unleash violence against the UNP supporters. Some security personnel paid by the national security budget were used to kill youths who stood up to safeguard the people's rights at Udathalawinna. The House should condemn this heinous act and an impartial inquiry should be demanded from the President.

The criminals should be forthwith. The House approved the motion without a division.
