In a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Zhu Rongji expressed the hope that the friendly cooperation between the two countries would be consolidated and enhanced during his tenure. The Chinese Premier said:"On the occasion of Your Excellency's swearing-in to the office of the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I wish to extend, on behalf of the Chinese Government and people and in my own name, our warm congratulations and good wishes to Your Excellency. "The friendly exchanges between China and Sri Lanka can be traced back to the ancient times. Over 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between our two countries, with the concern of the leaders and joint efforts of our two sides, the bilateral relations have been constantly and steadily developed. "I am confident that, during Your Excellency's tenure of office, the traditional friendship and friendly cooperation based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence between China and Sri Lanka, will be further consolidated and enhanced. May Sri Lanka enjoy prosperity and its people well-being. May Your Excellency enjoy happiness and good health." |
