by Ranil Wijayapala Former Minister Anuruddha Ratwatte said yesterday that he was ready to assist any inquiry or Police investigation over election violence for which he had been accused of by the UNP and by certain media. Denying any involvement in election violence including the killing of Muslims in Udatalawinna, he said the Police had not so far asked him for any statement regarding those incidents despite media reports quoting political sources. "As a responsible and law abiding citizen I am ready to assist any inquiry and produce any person connected to me if they are accused of any violence," he said at a news conference in Colombo. He also refuted media reports that his son had left the country, claiming he is still in Sri Lanka. He said the UNP and certain media organisations reporting only one sided stories are trying to make him a murderer. He said the two vehicles belonging to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation which are now being reported by certain media institutions as the vehicles involved in election violence were hijacked by an unidentified group near Mawanella on December 6. Those vehicles were used by his security personnel and were parked at his Kandy residence on the elections day. They left for Colombo to provide security for him on his arrival in Colombo. The two soldiers who drove those vehicles are still missing and the Police Constable in one of those vehicle who was seriously injured is being treated at Kegalle hospital. |
