FCCISL chief calls for four-pronged approach

by Ravi Ladduwahetty

A frontline business leader yesterday called upon the new Government to adopt a four pronged approach to solve the burning issues of the country.

Macky Hashim- President of the apex trade chamber- the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry called upon the Government to initially create an environment for strong economic development program especially towards the development of the small and medium scale businesses and also the development of the agricultural sector.

The business community also wanted the Government to look into those business concerns which were affected by the parate execution laws as well, he stressed.

It is not only the major industries and big business houses who have been affected in the last few years due to bad economic policies. There have been a large number of intermediary businesses such as shops, distributors, transport agents etc which have been affected in the last three years. A robust economy will definitely accommodate these sectors who are the links to the business community, he explained.

Another area that deserves special attention are those who have been affected by the parate loan executions. Banks have disbursed loans to small business houses and they cannot operate due to their property being seized by the banks. These business houses deserve sympathy and they could not operate successfully due to adverse business conditions.

We also want the Government to create an environment of peace by settling the ethnic crisis to attain prosperity through business development and relief to the poor through a very aggressive and transparent approach, he said.

He also stressed the importance of having a good and effective law and order situation so that stability in the business community will ensure from that which would lead to investor confidence.
