PM resigns

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake yesterday tendered his resignation to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga accepting the results of the December 5 general election, a press release issued by the PM's Office said.

Mr. Wickremanayake thanked the President, all government and opposition former MPs, his staff and the media for the support given to him during the tenure of office. He also urged the public to be calm and peaceful.
