KARACHI, Nov 28 (AFP) - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reprimanded express pacer Shoaib Akhtar for misconduct against a Sri Lankan batsman during the Sharjah tri-series final earlier this month, an official said Wednesday.

"Akhtar is reprimanded by a written strict warning to set an example so that such misconduct does not take place again," PCB director Brigadier Munawwar Rana told AFP.

Akhtar, however, escaped any fines and suspensions.

The 26-year-old hurled a four-letter word at Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardene when the batsman hit him for a six during the final of Sharjah tri-series on November 4.

Only teammate Wasim Akram's interference avoided a scuffle between the two players.

International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Denis Lindsay, who reported Akhtar's action during the same tournament, did not take any action of the misconduct.

However, PCB chairman Lieutenant General Tauqir Zia passed the matter to a four-member disciplinary committee on the grounds that Akhtar's action could have spoiled cordial relations between Pakistan and Sri Lankan cricket boards.

The fast bowler was fined Rs. 50,000 (1,042 US dollars) and suspended for one limited over match by in March last year after Akhtar arrived late at team's hotel during Australia's tour.

Akhtar currently plays club cricket in Australia and is required to work with former West Indian fast bowler Micheal Holding to improve his action in the stage two of ICC's process of dealing bowlers with illegal action.

He could face a one year ban from international cricket if his action is reported again within 12 months.
