After a hard week's work - enjoy your weekend!

by Aditha Dissanayake

Are you type A or type B? According to psychiatrists, if you are the ordinary Citizen Perera on the street, you simply have to belong to either one or the other.

You are type A if you are competitive, clock-watching and always hurrying; you hate to waste time and you are constantly questioning yourself "What have I achieved?". You are type B if you take life as it comes. You are happy with what you have and so, have no qualms about lying in front of the TV doing nothing the whole day.

How you spend your weekend will depend on what "type" you are. If you are type A, chances are, you would organize your Saturday and Sunday to the last detail. You would be over-organized. If you are type B on the other hand, you would slump through the weekend, spending most of it hanging around in your night clothes. Needless to say, this is as bad as doing too much.

In order to really enjoy your weekend let it begin on Friday. Do not keep late appointments on Friday. Finish the day as soon as you can and head for home, leaving all your "office-thoughts" behind you. If you have not finished all your work make a list of the unresolved tasks and leave it on your desk, promising yourself you will not think about them till Monday, when you will handle them the first thing in the morning. Close your mind on office as you leave your desk on Friday.

Sleep late, on Saturday, but do not overdo it. If you are used to getting up at 5.30 or six in the morning on weekdays, let yourself snooze till seven during the weekend, but never till nine or ten.

Fill the day with activity, for, according to psychologists, when you oversleep you have less energy and your recovery period to be totally awake will take longer. Too much sleep can even make you feel you are having a hangover.

Even though there may be no one around to impress, do not neglect your appearance.

Change into day clothes as soon as you wake up, even when you are not expecting visitors or intend to go out. Spending time and energy on the way you look would make you feel good which in turn would make the weekend stretch on into a period of unlimited bliss.

Finally, to make the most out of your precious, "workless" days, stop yourself from doing anything which may seem like "hardwork".

Leave the clothes washing and house cleaning for week day evenings. Let Spontaneity be your guru during the weekend. Pamper yourself. At the end of five days of hard work you deserve it!
