PA supporters shot dead

by Puttalam Central Sepcial Corr.

Two PA supporters riding a motorcycle along the Puttalam-Anamuduwa road were shot dead by an unidentified gunman lying in ambush in a jungle tract around 7 a.m. yesterday. The victims were idenfied as Sisira Kumara (18) and his elder brother aged 24.

The Anamaduwa police is investigting. No arrests have been made so far.

Meanwhile the number of election related incidents and complaints rose to 1169 yesterday, November 23, the Police Election Seretariat said.

Of these 588 were by the UNP, 398 by the PA, 58 by the JVP, 38 by the SLMC, 16 by the EPDP, 6 by the TULF, 2 by the CWC, one by the Sihala Urumaya and other parties including Independent groups made 64 complaints.

Director of the Police Election Secretariat Senior SP T.J. Miskin told the "Daily News" yesterday that several major incidents were reported in Chilaw, Anuradhapura, Anamaduwa and Gampaha Police areas.

The Head of the PES has directed all officers in charge of Police stations to use road blocks in order to check vehicles carrying weapons during the nomination and election period.
