Senthilvel by Jaffna Special correspondent The Tamils have not forgotten the seventeen years of army atrocities and State terrorism during the U.N.P rule. The burning of Jaffna public library, rigging of votes at the District Council election, torture of Tamil youth are still fresh in the minds of the Jaffna voters. With what temerity has the UNF put forward candidates to contest at the parliamentary election asked C.K. Senthilvel the first candidate of the New Democratic Party contesting the parliamentary election in the Jaffna district. He was speaking at an election meeting held at Karaveddy Point Pedro. A. Veerakathy presided. Senthilvel further said that the past records of UNP and as well as the People's Alliance are tainted with blood, No self respecting Tamil would ever vote for these reactionary and communal parties. He said that when the TULF passed a resolution adopting Tamil Eelam as the ultimate goal of the Tamils, Comrade Shanmugathasan and he warned them, that their demand would culminate in blood bath and annihilation of the Tamils. He said if the Tamils want the right of self determination recognised by the future governments it should be the unanimous clamour of the Tamils. The progressive forces should get together and make the Tamil issue a struggle of the people for self determination. It is the New Democratic Party that could fight for this ideal in and outside the Parliament. He accused the United Tamil Alliance of dabbling in unrealistic goals detrimental to the Tamil race. |
