Plantation industry needs urgent attention

by Ariyaratne Ganegoda and U.A.R. Bandara

Kegalle District UNF Candidate Kabeer Hasheem said that the country's plantation industry needs urgent attention to take it out from present mess and also to create more employment.

Addressing a rally at Mawanella, Kabeer Hashim said that after the UNF formed the next Government he will uplift the rubber industry not only in Mawanella electorate but in the whole of Kegalle District creating employment opportunities for the youthful generation.

He said that under the PA rule, the UNP activists as well as sympathizers were totally marginalized and the poor Janasavi recipients were deprived of relief under the Samurdhi Programme and that the natives of the District who owned large extent of land have been reduced to holders of a mere few perches today.

He further said that Kegalle is a District much more uncongenial than the Hambantota District and that the people are suffering since 1994 under soaring cost of living resulting from the lack of vision and proper planning on the part of the PA administration. He said that his sole ambition is to alleviate pauperism among the people.

Nimal Jayasinghe, the former PA Chairman of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha,in his speech said that a large number of UNF candidates at this general election are those who broke away from the People's Alliance and that they will enjoy full freedom to serve the people under the unbiased leadership of Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe who is ready with a clear programme envisaging a better life for the people.

He urged the people of the Kegalle District not to be deceived by the falsities of the People's Alliance and vote for the victory of the United National Front. Several UNP members of the Sabaramuwa Provincial Council and Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha spoke.
