Voters are determined to teach a good lesson for dissidents - Janaka Bandara Tennakoon

by Galewela Group Corrospondent

Voters in the Matale district are determined to teach an unforgettable lesson to those politicians who betrayed their trust for money and other privileges, PA's Matale district leader Janaka Bandara Tennakoon told a meeting in Tholambagolla.

He further said;

"SLFP Secretary Bernard Aluvihare first crossed-over to UNP just before the 1956 General Election, who had been a founder-member of the SLFP, Matale people defeated him and voted Nimal Karunatileke to power.

When Nimal Karunatileke deserted the party once again the voters sent him home.

Richard Udugama was elected to the Parliament as a SLFP MP by Matale people.

His betrayal was also answered by the people in the same manner.The 21st century jumping monkey also will be sent to the zoo at the December 5th election following this tradition by Matale people.

"The leader of the PA team contesting Matale District Janaka Bandara Tennakoon made the above statement speaking at an election propaganda meeting held at Tholombagolla recently. PA candidate and whip of the Central Provincial Council W.M. Yasamana, a member of the CPC L.D. Nimalasiri, Galewela Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman R. Jayatileke and SLFP activities of Tholombagolla, Walaswewa, Puwakpitiya, Galwangedihena, Welangodahinne, Makulgolla and Galapamula were present at this meeting.

Tennakoon further said 'Dambulla one of the solid SLFP bases in the country is consisted of farmers those who make their living by the cultivation of paddy and several other cash crops. They do not expect the Government to do anything personally to them.

What they want is the infra-structure development making it possible for them to till their lands and to lead an independent life. They know with experience that SLFP meets their needs better. Therefore they stay with SLFP.

The writing-off of cultivation loans is the most recent step taken by the PA Government to serve the farming community under the understanding arrived at with the JVP.

The proposed bill to recover the big loans borrowed from the state banks running by each person and evaded the settlement for several years was another very important measure PA wanted to take; but the UNP led dissidents prevented this giving chances to the hand-full of UNP supporters.

District Candidate Yasamana said, that UNP candidates canvassing for votes promise new jobs for the youth and prepare lists. We cannot forget similar lists prepared by UNP in the 1989-90 led over 60,000 youth to die on the burning tyres.

The speaker told that the youth as well as their parents, relatives, friends and most of the people who remember the terror-rule would defeat UNP for the 11th time and bring-back PA to power to carry-forward the progressive programmes for another 6 years.
