Under this program all youth who complete their school education and desirous of following educational and vocational training through the "Yovun Peramuna" could do so before the end of this year, the UNP leader said. Each youth will be given an 18 months training program in subjects like computer programming, typing and shorthand, pottery, carpentry, motor mechanism and other subjects. During training a payment of Rs. 2,000 will be paid to each person by the State. Youth is the back bone of a country and it is the duty of the Government to fulfil the obligations of youth. They must be provided necessary employment and other facilities to enable them to stand on their own feet, Wickremewinghe said. "We all are aware that tens of thousands of youth who pass the (O.L) and (A.L) examinations cannot go for higher education due to financial difficulties. It is the sole duty of the Government to help them irrespective of their political background", he added. Youth is the only natural resource we have today. Therefore it is our duty to extend a helping hand to enable them to fulfil their aspirations and develop the country's economy, Professor G. L. Pieris said. |
