He said he had no doubts that even Sajith Premadasa would do the same, since both their fathers were assassinated by the LTTE. Addressing an election rally in the Nuwara-Eliya Town he said that the President having learnt from intelligence sources that the UNP was heading for victory was now preparing to use the underworld and Army deserters to stop this. But this time the Government would meet with its Waterloo since the people have mobilized themselves to meet any challenge. "Our leader had always maintained that the ethnic problem will be solved within a unitary framework. Therefore I ask the people not to be fooled by Government false propaganda". He said the potatoe farmer of Nuwara-Eliya was pauperised after 1994 and all appeals to get a better deal for the potatoe farmers by Mr. S.B. Dissanayake fell on deaf years. "What right has the President got to ask for another mandate? The UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had a clear vision on how to tackle the country's burning problems and offer a solution to the war". He asked the people of Nuwara-Eliya not to be intimidated and go to the poll without fear. "They have S.B. Dissanayake on their side now. Let us send five good Elephants from Nuwara-Eliya".
