UNP oppression still fresh in the minds of people - Gamini Thilakasiri

by Homagama Special Corrospondent

The former MP and Colombo district PA candidate, Gamini Thilakasiri addressing a PA rally at Nawarangahala, Homagama, said that "The 17 year period of UNP oppression is still fresh in the minds of the people and as such the PA will definitely win the forthcoming election.

Gamini Thilakasiri further said that certain individuals who gained powerful Ministerial posts in the PA government by moving closely with the President and enjoyed all perks and privileges and built palaces for themselves have betrayed the party and joined hands with the UNP.

Those who siphoned off the savings of innocent Samurdhi recipients and those who earned commissions through the distribution of textile quotas and the felling of valuable forest cover had crossed over to the UNP.

Thilakasiri called upon the UNP Leader to explain on what basis they have gone into partnership with the Tamil Alliance who believe that the LTTE is the sole defender of the Tamil citizens.

"Also, the UNP leader must prove how the UNP has planned to give a separate state to the LTTE.

"It is up to you to help to form a strong government to carry on the steps taken by the PA to develop the country". He also stated that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has still four years more to work as the Executive President and therefore it is she who will be able to form a new Government, appoint the Cabinet, Secretaries and other posts for a future Government.

To prevent a division of the country, it is essential to establish a strong government and therefore it is the duty of the people of this country to give at least 120 seats to the PA, he added.
