Addressing election rallies in Kaduwela and Kesbewa Wickremesinghe said, neither had the JVP taken up this issue when it entered into a probationary agreement with the PA. The JVP's manifesto states that it would set up cultural centres in every electorate? How will this solve the problems of youth? The UNP on the other hand had enumerated its plan for the country's youth in its last election manifesto which would be implemented. He said a government under his leadership would create an economy that would guarantee new jobs and ensure a contented youth population. He would open up new avenues of employment imparting the necessary training. He would separate the country into five economic zones and order investors to set up industries hotels etc in each zone thereby taking development to the rural areas. Wickremesinghe said, the youth population is only demanding its rightful dues to live without want and in dignity and it was the obligation of any government to meet their aspirations. His government would guarantee every opportunity to the youth to better their prospects.
