by Badulla south group correspondent The P.A. Govt. has spent Rs. 1000 million to set up a post office in Badulla. This is the first phase of this project. Another two buildings and a telephone exchange will be setup within a short period. After setting up those two storied and four storied buildings everyone can get the best communication facilities. In addition the large conference hall will be provided rooms for 1500 people" said Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Health, Indigenous Medicine and Social Services Minister. He was speaking at an inauguration ceremony held at the new post office building in Badulla. Nimal Siripala de Silva said: "I was born at Kandana in Badulla. I studied at Dharmadutha College. When I walked to school I could see the small post office building. It was in the same condition throughout. Developing Badulla was one of my dreams. Now half of my dreams have come true. I will provide more health facilities to the people when I modernise the Badulla General Hospital. The new cancer unit will be inaugurated on December 2 this year. Even now it has modern facilities, specially the specialist doctors and new wards. I will set up a new bus stand complex with every facility. I hope to set up a new super market too, in the near future. I have already inaugurated 22 telecom branches in the main towns. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga readily allocated Rs. 1000 million to set up the building Minister de Silva said. Posts and Telecommunications Minister Indika Gunawardena, PA candidates D.D.W. Wickramaratne. Nihal Seneviratne, Piyasena and post master general and several others participated.
