This was the outcome of a visit by a delegation led by Minister A. H. M. Fowzie, to Saudi Arabia, in the course of which he called on his counterpart Shaikh Saleh Bin Abdul Aziz Al Aklshaik.

Minister Fowzie explained to the Saudi Minister what the current situation in Sri Lanka was, mentioning in particular that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and her Government had allocated a plot of land in the heart of Colombo and Rs. 75 million for the construction of a Wakf House.

The Saudi Minister requested Minister Fowzie to send him the proposal so that the Saudi Government could consider granting financial assistance.

He added that a representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would visit Colombo for the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Ministry release stated.
