Three policemen killed in mine blast by Vavuniya Central group correspondent An Inspector of Police and two constables were killed in a claymore mine explosion in Poonewa, Vavuniya yesterday morning. The incident has taken place near the Poonewa naval camp, 12 Km from Vavuniya on the Vavuniya-Medawachchiya road at 9.35 a.m. The jeep was completely destroyed in the blast, believed to have been triggered by a group of Tigers hiding in the vicinity. A civilian passer-by injured in the explosion was rushed to the Vavuniya hospital. Troops immediately launched a cordon and search operation to nab the terrorists. |
