Rs. 2.6 b boost for fishery

The construction of four new fishery harbours is now underway at a cost of Rs. 1,300 million in Hambantota (Rs. 500 million), Kalametiya ( Rs 300 million), Ambalangoda (Rs. 400 million) and Chilaw (Rs 100 million). The projects are a part of an ongoing program launched by the Fisheries Ministry during the last seven years to improve the infrastructure facilities in the fishing sector. Full story

President mourns Nayaka thera's death

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga issuing a condolence message yesterday on the demise of Most Ven. Pihimbiyagollewe Dhammaloka Nayaka Thera, the Principal of Dharmaloka Pirivena, Sri Pura in Padaviya under tragic circumstances and the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of Hurulugampalatha said that the Nayaka Thera rendered a yeoman service to upgrade the living standards of the people living in the area.
