Special information book for election complaints by Sarath Malalasekera All complaints made by candidates and their supporters in relation to the Parliamentary Elections of December 5 should be recorded in a special Election Information Book, the Police Elections Secretariat instructed all police stations yesterday. Written complaints should be copied into the Election Information Book with the original filed carefully together with and acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint. Telephone or Telegraphed complaints received over besides being recorded in the Station telephone Register, should also be entered in the Election Information Book and a statement recorded consequent to any complaints entered in the Election Information Book should also be entered in the same book or else, the originals of the Crime Note Book should be pasted in it, quoting appropriates references, the Director said. The Election Information Book should be preserved carefully and kept under lock and key until such time as all cases arising from the election have been disposed of. The responsibility for preserving the Election Information Book will rest personally with the OIC of the Station. In the event of his transfer, the book should be handed over to his successor. Action in terms of the Departmental Orders should be taken in respect of complaints against Police. Messages to Police Headquarters concerning election complaints should be copied to the Director Police Election Secretariat. |
