Professionals for PA by Uditha Kumarasinghe The Professionals' Front for Winning Rights yesterday staged a picketing campaign opposite the Pettah Bo tree calling on all workers to vote for the People's Alliance at the December 5 General Election. The General Secretary of the Front Sunil Dissanayake said that out of 6.6 million workers four million have abstained from voting at all elections held in the past few decades. "At this decisive moment, we are appealing that they pledge their support to the PA to form a stable Government." he said. The objective of the campaign was to seek the support of the professionals for securing a PA victory. Dissanayake said a serious doubt has been created in the minds of the people by the failure of the UNP to nominate candidates for the North-East provinces. Seven UNP MPs had been elected from these two provinces obtaining nearly 172,000 votes, during the last general election, he said. If the UNP was voted into power an unstable Government would result and the employment of 6.6 million would be at risk, he said. |
