Anoja complains by Rodney Matinesz Film actress Anoja Weerasinghe yesterday complained of a threat to her life and warned that she would hold the government responsible for any harm that befall her. Speaking at a media briefing organised by the Lak Vanitha Peramuna to focus on the plight of women under the present government, Weerasinghe said she was no stranger to threats and attacks, recalling the damage suffered to her house and belongings two years ago. Now that she has decided to openly canvass for Mr. Wickremesinghe she is being threatened once again. "Is this the situation of women in the country? What would be the plight of an ordinary woman if this could happen to a person of her stature?" she questioned. Ex-co member of the UNP Rosy Senanayake referring to the attack on her premises a few days ago said as a result she had to shift her children to another home. How she asked could any woman be encouraged to come forward for any activity when they are being subjected to such violence she said in response to a query posed by a journalist to how could the UNP guarantee women's rights, when it had nominated only 10 women in its list of candidates. She said they had faith in Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe's pledge to solve the problems of women and to ensure their dignity in society. |
