Build an alternative leadership against PA and UNP -Vasudeva Nanayakkara

by Homagama Special Correspondent

Democratic Left Front Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara called upon the voters to cast their vote for the Democratic Left Front at this election to build a new mass movement bringing together all those who cherish democracy, national freedom, social justice and national unity.

He was addressing the party activists at a meeting held at the residence of a retired School Principal Jinadasa Akarawita at Katuwana road in Homagama.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara, warned the voters not to support blindly the two major camps led by the PA and the UNP without any critical examination of their policies.

He said, it was a great burden for the country and the people to have another election within one year. But the PA government does not care about this.

Our country has been denied development and progress due to our subservience to World Powers. It is absolutely essential for us to have dealings with the rest of the world.

But the devaluation of the rupee and neglecting our indigenous agriculture is the result of our subservience to foreign capital, he said.

DLF Leader said, the gap between the poor and the rich continues to grow. Law and order is breaking down and social justice is fast disappearing. A proper system of faxation, a more equitable policy of public expenditure and a proper management of the market could find a solution to this problem.

There is no path to national unity without an agreement amongst the various nationalities. Without it there can be no end to the war. The basis of such agreement can only be the acceptance of equality amongst all communities and their respective national aspirations.

In this regard both the PA and the UNP are equally guilty. The JVP that became a convert partner of the PA government also has to share this blame. What is necessary to be done is to build an alternative force and a leadership against both the PA and the UNP, he added.
