UNP candidates engaged in a 'Manape' battle - Athula Wijesinghe by Kuliyapitiya group correspondent UNP candidates are fighting with each other in the 'Manape' battle pasting posters in every wall, bridge, culvert and lamp post leaving no room for others, Kurunegala District PA candidate Athula Wijesinghe said. He was addressing a PA election meeting in Mahimpitiya. Wijesinghe further said:"If the polythene decorations, vehicles and posters have voting rights, a few UNP candidates would win by a very large amount of 'Manapes'. However they have no votes, but the people have that right. They are with the PA and they would not desert the party as a few traitors did." Wijesinghe added that political conspiracies were nothing new to SLFP - led Governments. As a result of a political conspiracy Premier Bandaranaike was assassinated. In 1964, 14 parliamentarians led by then Minister C.P. De Silva was crossed over to UNP and defeated the SLFP-LSSP coalition. But the party remained stable. Those dissidents were stranded in political wilderness. SB-GL-Mahinda faction too would face the same fate after December 5th. Who ever leave the party the people would rally round it, and would not go after the dissidents. PA candidates are not involved in 'Manape' battle as UNP candidates do. While they are fighting for 'Manape' pasting posters we request to vote for 'Chair'. More votes in favour of 'Chair' means more MPs from the PA. Who ever was elected is no matter, we want more PA MPs. Then only we would be able to fulfil the aspirations of the people, he said. |
