JVP jacked the people not the PA government - Wimal Weerawansa

by Kuliyapitiya Group Corrospondent

We jacked the people not the PA Government since our commitment is to serve the poor and we exposed our ability and commitment within 35 days, JVP's Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa said.

Addressing an election rally in Kurunegala, Weerawansa further said:

"At the previous election people gave us the mandate to be the remote control of the Government that come to power. We did that successfully. We got that opportunity only after Rauf Hakeem was chased away and refusal of the UNP demands.

"UNP alleges us that we jacked the Government. We deny that instead charge the UNP that they tried to jack the Government. They negotiated with the Government and demanded the Executive Premiership for Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe and half of the Cabinet portfolios to UNPers. Madame having turned down their demands turned to us.

We demanded nothing for us but to write off defaulted cultivation loans, to reduce the Cabinet to 20, and to frame legislations to recover defaulted bank loans. When the Government took action to attend to that demand, loan defaulters began to shiver. They threw their money lavishly and as a result a few PA Parliamentarians crossed over to UNP.

"JVP is a party of the people for the people. Our commitment is to serve the poor.

"So we did not jack up the Government but jacked up the people. Within 35 days we exposed our ability and the state of our commitment.

"The forthcoming election is a decisive one. If the people took the correct decision they will win, if not they would be defeated. We expect the triumph of the people. "The UNF is a very peculiar alliance. S. B. Dissanayake who advocates dictatorship and closure of courts, Thondaman who claims a Male Nadu in the Hill Country, Rauf Hakeem who claims a Muslim Administrative District for Kalmunai sowing Muslim communalism and TULF with the backing of the LTTE. UNP gives the leadership for that pickle alliance. Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe's only ambition is to be the Primier committing whatever mean betrayal.

"He denies the charge that he has an agreement with the LTTE. Let us believe what he says is correct. What about his MoU with Rauf Hakeem and SB-GL faction."
