Mahinda challenges UNP

The Minister of Ports and Shipping Mahinda Rajapaksa challenged the UNP to prove any case of a UNP candidate or supporter in the Hambantota District who was shot at or warded in any hospital with injuries.

During the past two weeks, a certain UNP candidate contesting the elections has been issuing false statements to the media that there is political violence in the Hambantota District just as a gambit in his race for preference votes and these statements are being proved false, Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

Up to now no single UNP supporter has been attacked but very recently UNP supporters had attacked the PA office at Molkepupathana and 11 PA supporters were injured in the attack by the UNP thugs. It could be proved with evidence that 6 among those who were attacked were critically injured and were treated at the Tissamaharama Hospital.

The bogey of violence is being created by the UNP candidates who have brought thugs and undesirable elements from Colombo to Hambantota but the people of the Hambantota district who are very much aware of the false propaganda gimmicks of the UNP have decided to teach these fraudulent persons a lesson on December 5. If there is any UNP supporter who had been injured by PA supporters, the UNP is challenged to prove any such incident, Mahinda Rajapaksa reiterated.
