FR application challenging IGP's action: Petitioner allowed further time till Nov. 26 The Supreme Court yesterday allowed further time till November 26, for the petitioner to investigate into the reasons submitted by the IGP in connection with eight transfer orders given to the officers in charge of police, after the dissolution of Parliament on October 10, when the hearing resumes in the Fundamental Rights application filed by UNP Deputy Chairman Karu Jayasuriya. The Bench comprised Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva and Justices Asoka de Silva and C. V. Wigneshwaran. When the case challenging the IGP's actions in connection with the transferring of Police officers after the dissolution of Parliament to face a General Election in December 5 came up for hearing. The Additional Solicitor General Saleem Marsoof PC submitted that all details required by the Senior Counsel for the petitioner were duely forwarded to him. At this stage, Senior Counsel for the petitioner K. N. Choksy PC informed court that the petitioner was satisfied only with the reasons made out in connection with 14 transfers of the OICs. The Counsel said that his client was still investigating into the facts provided pertaining to the remaining eight OIC's. He also required further time for the purpose. The Court thereafter ordered to mention the matter again on November 26. Additional Solicitor General Saleem Marsoof PC with Senior State Counsel Shavindra Fernando and State Counsel Riyaz Hamza and N. Pullai appeared for the respondents. K. N. Choksy PC with Upul Jayasuriya and Ronald Perera instructed by Samararatne Associates appeared for the Petitioner Karu Jayasuriya. Further case will be mentioned on November 26. |
