BoI nets Rs. 194m investments in October

The Board of Investment (BoI) had signed 10 agreements for investment worth Rs. 194 million in October, a BoI official told the Daily News yesterday.

Once these projects get off the ground they will create 1329 direct employment opportunities, he said.

"Of the ten projects, six are in the field of information technology. This could tremendously help to expand the country's IT sector", he said.

These six projects will generate 175 employment opportunities, an officer added. The projects are:

ACS technologies (Pvt) Ltd, will establish a project to set up an Information Technology Training Institute with the collaboration of M/S Ravichandra Systems and Computer Services (Pvt) Ltd. India which is a leading Hi-Tech provider in the fields of IT training, software development and data processing in South India. This project will invest Rs. 17.5 Mn and cater 19 job opportunities.

Pro-Venture Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, has signed an agreement to set up an Information Technology Training Institute to provide training in automation information processing, system operation, application development etc. This project has been selected by the BII to operate under 50 IT Training Centre programme for establishing and operating satellite centers connected to a hub with a view to enhance development and promote computer awareness programmes in Urban and Semi Urban areas targeting ordinary and advanced level students in and around Satellite Centres in the region.

Texcentric Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. has signed an agreement to establish a project to develop software for export investing Rs. 12 Mn and catering 50 direct jobs. This investment is a joint venture between the USA and Sri Lanka to set up an enterprise to develop software to digital textbooks in keeping with the modern requirements of the development work.

Tritel Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. will establish a project to develop software for E-Commerce related services for export investing Rs. 3.2 Mn and generating 33 new jobs. This project proposal submitted by Tritel Services (Pvt) Ltd.

Soft Tech Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. is a Korean investment, which will establish a project to develop software for export investing Rs. 18Mn and providing 33 direct jobs.

Hill Street Academy (Pvt) Ltd. has signed an agreement to establish a managerial institute to provide training logistic management and Information Technology investing Rs. 2.2 Mn and creating 30 jobs. The Hill Street Academy is the brainchild of the Capital Logistic Group. This latest addition is a learning center, which will redefine logistic disciplines to link the present to the future and to prepare logistic professionals to manage Information technologies of the future, which is an essential and vital part in Global Supply Chain Management.

Pattiyakanda Livestock and Agriculture Farm (Pvt ) Ltd. has bern given approval to set up a livestock and agricultural farm at Pettiyagoda investing Rs. 12Mn and employing 51 persons.

This project will cultivate vegetables and fruits by using bio-fertiliser for local market on a 15 acre land owned by the Ministry of Plantation Industries.

Further Lanka Bio Products (Pvt) Ltd. has signed an agreement to set up a project to cultivate and process fruits and other perennial crops for export and the local market. This project will be established on 80 acres at Bingiriya investing Rs. 12Mn and will employ 103 people.

Emerald Star Fashions (Pvt) Ltd. has obtained approval to manufacture non-quota garment for exports. This project will be established at the Mawathagama Export Processing Zone investing Rs. 79 Mn and employ 504 people. An estimated production capacity of the project is 60,000 pcs per year.

C-Front Clothing (Pvt) Ltd. has given an approval for legal separation from the expansion unit of Venture International (Pvt) Ltd. at Kandy. This is a new garment manufacturing project with investment of Rs. 22.5 Mn and will employ 500 persons.
