President mourns Nayaka thera's death

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga issuing a condolence message yesterday on the demise of Most Ven. Pihimbiyagollewe Dhammaloka Nayaka Thera, the Principal of Dharmaloka Pirivena, Sri Pura in Padaviya under tragic circumstances and the Chief Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka of Hurulugampalatha said that the Nayaka Thera rendered a yeoman service to upgrade the living standards of the people living in the area.

The President said in her message that she was deeply shocked and sorrowed by the sudden death of the Venerable Nayaka Thera as a result of a terrorist bomb explosion.

The message further said:

"The late prelate pioneered the establishment of agricultural colonies in Sri Pura and Welioya areas and rendered a praiseworthy service without any discrimination for the uplift of social and economic standards of the inhabitants. He also contributed immensely towards the betterment of education, health, irrigation and many other facilities, while, promoting peace and security activities, all of which are remembered with deep respect.

"The demise of the Venerable Nayaka Thera as a result of a bomb attack by terrorists and their supportive groups who are determined to demolish the national identity of this country, is a loss for the whole country, especially for the people of Anuradhapura."
