Sri Lanka lose again Sunil Abeywardene reporting from Bangkok Sri Lanka lost their third game here to Thailand 3 sets to nil in the 11th Asian Women's Volleyball Championship which is in progress. At the final whistle of the third set the scores read as 25-13, 25-10, 25-13 in favour of the host Thailand. Sri Lankan women spikers who performed well against Japan and New Zealand in the earlier games were never in the game from the start against the hosts. Their serves, dashes and defence was not all properly executed right through the game which led to their defeat. This proved that the selections were not correctly done. It was most difficult to find out on what basis the selections were made. Local coach speaking after the game said that he used the second string of players for this game and rested the better players to face tough teams Japan and China in the next games. Defending champions Japan are on top of group A, while Thailand occupies the second slot ahead of China. |
