by Ananda Kannangara A program to halt the display of obscene cinema posters and cut-outs near educational institutions and main junctions will be initiated by the National Film Corporation (NFC). The first phase of this program, scheduled to be launched shortly will be the removal of all such posters presently displaying at prominent places with the assistance of local bodies. Although we launched a similar program sometime ago with the help of Police and other social service organisations it was not very much successful due to numerous reasons, an NFC spokesman told the Daily News. Even at present a large number of such posters and cut-outs are being displayed close proximity to schools in Colombo and suburbs and also opposite leading cinema halls, he said. He said a recent research had revealed that more than 50 percent of such posters are mainly displayed in major cities including Colombo and Kandy. "If the displaying of such posters at prominent places is not prohibited by relevant authorities even at this juncture it will greatly affect the morals of the younger generation, he added.
